RADSAT-SK2: Saskatchewan's Second Home-Grown Satellite

Building upon the Canadian CubeSat Project (CCP) the Canadian Space Agency (CSA) developed the CUBICS Initiative. The call for applications was in September 2022 and the announcement of the 9 teams chosen came in June 2023.

The goals of the CUBICS Initiative is to provide the opportunity student and professors engage in an end-to-end CubeSat mission over the next 3 years. This project is developed around the needs, comfort level, expertise, and readiness of the recipients.

Selected projects have a specific mission to gather data related to climate change. Of the teams selected, topics range from measuring surface hydrology, capturing spectral imagery, and measuring particle charge in the atmosphere.

In Collaboration With The University of Regina

Students from the University of Regina will be responsible for designing their own payload, which will be on RADSAT-SK2. This team aims to investigate the effectiveness of aluminium and biological radiation shielding for analog integrated circuits (ICs) in low Earth orbit (LEO).

The team in Regina meets and collaborates frequently with one another, as well as with the team in Saskatoon to help bring Saskatchewan's second cube satellite to space!
